چکیده

The linear crack between two dissimilar elastic isotropic half-spaces under normal harmonic shear loading is considered taking the crack's faces contact interaction and friction into account. problem solved by boundary integral equations method components of solution are represented Fourier series. numerical convergence analysed. results validated through comparison with classical model solutions obtained for static problems without friction. effects material properties values coefficient on distribution stress intensity factors (normal opening transverse modes) presented

Modeling of fatigue crack closure in inclined and deflected cracks

A 2-dimensional, elastic-plastic finite element model has been developed to simulate plasticity induced crack closure in slanted and deflected cracks growing outside the small scale yielding (SSY) regime. The finite element model allows for contact between deformable surfaces to capture the complex contact interaction between the crack faces. Coulomb’s friction law has been used to model fricti...

Interface fluctuations under shear.

Coarsening systems under uniform shear display a long time regime characterized by the presence of highly stretched and thin domains. The question then arises whether thermal fluctuations may actually destroy this layered structure. To address this problem in the case of nonconserved dynamics, we study an anisotropic version of the Burgers equation, constructed to describe thermal fluctuations ...

Partial crack closure under block loading

Fatigue crack propagation tests under high–low and low–high block loading sequences have been performed in aluminium alloy specimens. The tests were carried out at constant DK conditions. Two stress ratios were analysed: R = 0.05 and R = 0.4. Crack closure was monitored in all tests by the compliance technique using a pin microgauge. The observed transient post load step behaviour is discussed ...

Resonances and Crack Roughness Effects in Surface Breaking Cracks

This study deals with two different aspects of scattering from the cracks. The first one is the measurement of crack resonances by local probes and the second is the effect of the roughness of the crack forces on the scattering data. Unlike the scattering measurement reported elsewhere, these measurements of crack resonances are to be performed by local probes. Two different types of probes are...

Cracks in Rubber under Tension Exceed the Shear Wave Speed

015504-1 The shear wave speed is an upper limit for the speed of cracks loaded in tension in linear elastic solids. We have discovered that in a nonlinear material, cracks in tension (mode I) exceed this sound speed and travel in an intersonic range between shear and longitudinal wave speeds. The experiments are conducted in highly stretched sheets of rubber; intersonic cracks can be produced s...
